'Pixie' Paul Jenkins was born in Launceston, Tasmania on March 21st, 1957 to Claude, an ice-skating teacher and health fanatic and Edna a doting mother who later became crippled from a bone disease, had differing ideas about how to bring a child up in the world.
Claude and Edna, both on pensions of some kind, set about using the young Pixie in a grand parental experiment. Through years of enforced fitness training and ice skating lessons in frozen over lounge rooms from his father and Ballet lessons and a Catholic education from his mother, Pixie endured them moving fron town to town in a dizzying array of addresses. From Tassy in 1965 to the Gold Coast. Then in 1968 to Moree and then finally settling in Tamworth in 1970. It was here that the young Pixie fell in love. First with the fiddle and then with country music.
Pixie has played for, supported on stage, recorded with some of the biggest names in Australian and world entertainment: BUDDY WILLIAMS, RICK AND THEL CAREY, JOY McKEAN (the wife of Slim Dusty), SHORTY RANGER, STAN COSTER, ANNE KIRKPATRICK, CHAD MORGAN, LESTER COOMBS, CHARLIE PRIDE, DIGGER REVELL, CHER, ARTHUR BLANCH, BULLAMAKANKA, JOHN WILLIAMSON, JIMMY BARNES, CHARLIE DANIELS, BOB DYLAN, THE CHIEFTAINS to name but a few.
With his incomparable solo show, he has redefined entertainment in clubs and pubs in NSW, QLD and VIC pulling record numbers to these shows.
He has written and produced critically acclaimed theatre peices dedicated to Australian country music history at his now famous Pixieland Country Theatre shows, a highlight for many Tamworth Country Music Festival fans.
With 5 Australian Country Music awards (The 'Golden Guitar'), numerous solo recordings and a 35+ year history in Australian entertainment, Pixie Jenkins is certainly a legend in his chosen profession.
